Our generation tends to applaud technology, and why shouldn’t they, the advancements have made our lives easier in a lot of ways. Technology is undoubtedly increasing at an exponential rate, and inovation comes along with it. We have gone from powerful mainframes, to desktop computers, to slimming laptops, and now we have tablet PC’s and increasingly more intelligent smartphones. Other than their compact size, there aren’t many other dissimilarities between a smartphone and a personal computer. Oh yeah, and the fact we can take our phones with us everywhere we go! I know some people that think we are too tied to our phones, but they often overlook the benefits of these compact money savers. Yes, I did say money savers, because with the five applications I’m going to mention below, they are a lifesaver for our finances.
Shop Saavy
I’m a fan of anything and everything that saves me money. This app is ideal for comparison shopping. It’s as easy as scanning a barcode at the store, and then instantly comparing both local and online stores for the cheapest option available to you. Better yet, if the barcode doesn’t work, you can type in the description for a quick and easy search as well. While sometimes “easy” is important to me, if I can find the same purchase a block away at a cheaper price, then the slight inconvenience is worth it to me!
iWallet
The iWallet app is great because of it’s sheer simplicity. We have all of these applications to track every financial measure we can think of, every nook and cranny of our budgets, when just the simple aspects of our finances are all that we need. As a corporate finance guy, I know the two most important aspects of a company’s financial health are the incoming revenues, and outgoing expenses. My only complaint with this app is that it is for the iPhone only. C’mon, let’s get with the times and put out a similar app for the Android operating system.
Paypal
As someone who runs an online business, paypal on-the-go is a dream come true! Whether you like them or not, paypal as cornered the market as the online wallet of choice. I’m constantly receiving and sending out payment to customers on a daily basis. This application allows me to spend more time away from a desk, and more time doing the things I want! A+ in my book.
Mint
I could recommend twenty difference banking, budgeting, and investing applications. Or I could simply recommend one app that let’s you track all those accounts in one easy place. The Mint app is ideal for the conscientious consumer on-the-go. You can review and update your monthly budget. Check your daily, weekly, and monthly spending. Or browse through your savings and checking accounts to verify balances, deposits, and withdrawls.
Best Deals
Best Deals is great application for finding daily deals, both local and online. Not only does it find daily deals from the most popular online sites, but it incorporate Facebook and Twitter, and allows total customization for the types of products you want to see! Granted, we may find ourselves wanting things that we never thought we needed before… how does that old adage go… “it’s so cheap, you can’t afford NOT to buy it!”.
